Howard's 25K Enters Fourth Year!

What started out as the merging of two ideals is now in preparation for its fourth annual running! Howard's 25K Run started off as the synthesis of two runner's dreams to provide enthusiasts the amazing experience of running the Great Allegany Passage while supporting Maryland's first municipal no-kill shelter, the Allegany County Animal Shelter. In the first three years, Howard's 25K Run has grown from a single event to a two day festival, offering active people of all athletic levels the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and history that is unique to Allegany County and its towns and cities. We look forward to seeing the familiar faces that have made this event so dear to us, and we hope there will be many new friends to meet as well!

New for 2018 Howard's Run Festival

This year's festival will take place the weekend of August 17-19. At this time we are still confirming vendors and sponsors, but we are confident that this year's event will be the best ever!

Last year we watched Adam Lowe of Mechanicsburg, MD break the tape and break the mens' record for the 25K collecting $100 for the win and $200 for the One Main Course Record Bonus. The womens' record held up though, so we anticipate a LOT of interest in this year's womens' 25K with a potential $400 cash prize on the line should Alicia Burkey's first year record of 1:50:25 be broken!

In response to many requests, we will be offering race day registration for the Paws on the Pavement 5K. Race day registration for the 5K will be offered from 7:00-7:45am Sunday, August 19 along with 5K late packet pickup. Race shirts and promotionals will be available on a first come, first served basis and we will not guarantee availability or size. We are also reducing the field size of Howard's 25K Run to 150 this year. Additionally, there will be no late packet pickup for the 25K event on Sunday morning.

After three years of holding the line on registration fees, we will be adjusting our fee schedules for Howard's 25K Run and Paws on the Pavement 5K. We experienced a decline in sponsor dollars last year and we are committed to offering the best experience for our participants possible while balancing that against our pledge to our charity. For the size and amenities, we still feel Howard's Run Festival is very competitive in pricing and we expect this restructing will benefit all of us now and in future years.

Sponsors Renew Commits to HRF

We are pleased to announce that several signature sponsors have already committed to Howard's Run Festival this year. Hunter Douglas will be returning as our naming sponsor for Howard's 25K Run and Sweet Pea Shuffle. Alcova Mortgage will once again be a festival sponsor with Sheetz and Baltimore Street Grill providing post race buffet items. Heavenly Prints Digital Media returns to provide emarketing and website management for the fourth year.

Lowe Crushes Course Record!

With perfect made-to-order weather for a summer race, Adam Lowe successfully defended his championship for the second consecutive year and broke his own course record Sunday at the 3rd Annual Hunter Douglas Howard's 25K Run.

Lowe collected a 300 dollar check for his efforts earning 100 for the overall win plus a 200 bonus for breaking the course record, collecting the One Main Break the Bank Kitty posting a time of 1:31:38 besting his previous mark by almost 3 minutes.

Robbie Jenkins, Ridgeley WV, and David Mertz, LaVale MD rounded out the top 3 on the mens' division. Megan Kenney of Frostburg, MD claimed victory in the womens' competition followed by Alicia Kordistos, Pittsburgh PA, and Jen Sober, McHenry MD.

Chad Sindy from LaVale, MD won the Potomac Farms Paws on the Pavement 5K in 21:29, edging Neil Buckel, Grantsville MD at the finish line. Gentry Shockey from Slanesville, WV claimed third. On the womens' side, 9 year old Callie Pudlak earned the win crossing the finish line in 25:15, followed by Katelin Zaluski, Cumberland MD, and Megan Fuller from Romney, WV. Sindy and Pudlak received a new pair of running shoes from Personal Best Athletics.

The 25K race saw 63 finishers complete the course this year, almost half the size of last year's field. Participation in the 5K was up about 10% with 77 finishers in its sophomore staging.
